Online Piano & Music Lessons

Private online piano and music lessons are personalized for students of all ages and experience levels, challenging the misconception that in-person is the only way to learn.

All prospective students and student families participate in a free live Zoom call intake. Adam learns about the students and their goals and ensures that everyone is comfortable with him as a teacher.

The Teacher

As a classically trained professional musician with over 30 years of experience, Adam teaches private online piano and music lessons to students of all ages and experience levels.

Lessons are personalized to meet the goals of: new and beginning music students, ages 7 and up, experienced pianists looking to improve their skills, singers wanting to learn how to self-accompany, and composers, songwriters, and studio musicians. For adult learners, Adam believes that there is no age limit to starting and enjoying your musical journey.

Adam works with all students and provides an open, caring, and inclusive environment for students of diverse backgrounds, identifications, religions, and neurotypes.

Online Lessons

The unique online format allows students to take lessons from the comfort of their own homes while meeting the ever-changing needs of their families. Benefits of online lessons include not having to cancel lessons when someone in the household is sick or under the weather, not having a new person in your home every week, not having to clean or prepare for company, not having to drive to and wait for another appointment, not spending more on gas, and most importantly for parents and guardians, is the comfort and peace of mind of being able to be present or within earshot during lessons.

Online lessons provide a great curriculum addition for homeschooling parents and guardians!

Piano lessons begin with an assessment of a students’ current skill level, along with their music strengths and aptitudes. Beginner piano lessons introduce the student to the foundations of playing piano, including proper body posture, technique at the keyboard, learning the keys and pedals, and sight-reading.

Intermediate piano lessons further these foundational studies, introducing the student to scales and arpeggios, basic music theory, and more challenging piano pieces while clarifying the course of future studies (classical, contemporary, or both).

Advanced piano lessons continue to explore and expand on previous areas of study to prepare the student for more difficult piano pieces, along with the introduction of ear-training and music history.

Music theory students are taught to comprehend and analyze the mathematic concepts of music, detailing the relationships and functionality of all aspects of music structure, form, and sound. Beginner theory lessons begin with the fundamentals of music theory, such as pitch, rhythm, notes, clefs, key signatures, staves, and basic chords, along with an overview of score analysis.

Intermediate theory lessons further these foundational studies, introducing an overview of more complex chords and structures of music while teaching how to identify a piece’s musical style based on historical analysis of score- and part-writing.

Advanced theory lessons continue to explore and expand on previous areas of study to enhance the student’s knowledge base of score analysis, so they can fully comprehend the sound and structure of any piece of music in any style or genre.

Composition lessons are designed specifically for anyone interested in writing music (or improving their writing skills) and are often taught in conjunction with music theory or ear-training studies. Beginner composition lessons always begin with a review of the fundamentals of music theory, along with an introduction to melody writing and score analysis.

Intermediate composition lessons further these foundational studies, introducing the creation of musical “roadmaps”, to outline and detail a piece’s significant events, and an overview of musical genres and compositional tools.

Advanced composition lessons continue to explore and expand on previous areas of study, especially score analysis and tonal harmony, to enhance the student’s ability to create their own unique artistic voice through their compositions.

Ear-training is the intricate art of identifying musical sounds, with an emphasis on simultaneously recreating and analyzing any piece of music.

Ear-training is built into each lesson for all Intermediate and Advanced students.

Beginner ear-training always begin with a review of the fundamentals of music theory and an assessment of the student’s aptitude, followed by learning to identify basic pitches on the student’s primary instrument(s).

Intermediate ear-training furthers these foundational studies, introducing sight-singing, solfeggio (e.g., “do-re-mi…”), and pitch identification in a multi-voice/ensemble setting.

Advanced ear-training continues to explore and expand on previous areas of study, preparing the students to identify and produce specific pitches and chords without any musical references.
